It’s been almost a year since I started my “massive overhaul” and it finally looks like I’ve solved the “easy version of the hard problem”.  What  this means is where there’s single statements like “then @1 is better than @2”  without a conjunction in there anywhere, the system can at least partially tell how that relates  to a statement somewhere else of the form “If @2 is better than @1”.  This works only in a small part of the system right now (and not at all in the live version which is 2.5 years old at this point) so I have no idea how hard it will be to apply to the rest.   I don’t think it should be that hard, but if the past is any indication “not that hard” means it will be a multi-year process.  We’ll see.
