An early complex argument – the death penalty in the United States

I have created an early example of what a complex argument looks like. See here.  The early state of the UI makes it hard to follow, but essentially it works out like this in plain english: the death penalty in the US is unjustifiable because life imprisonment is an available alternative that has no drawbacks and is less harmful.  Now there’s a lot to argue with there, but having the system divides it up into various sub-arguments to which a formal reply may be made, in such a way that it affects the whole thing.  This structure enables a rational discussion of a topic that otherwise quickly descends into repetitive and emotional arguments.
